The first of our 'training walks' in preparation for the Nepal trip Alex Briggs, Darrell Margerison and I are taking in Sept. This was a creek walk on Petrie Creek behind Alex's parents house in Woombye on the Sunshine Coast. Darrell and I didn't pay enough attention when Alex was briefing us on the walk so turned up in Goretex lined walking boots. This was not the best footwear for this walk as it's necessary to walk in the creek quite often, sometimes up to my crotch. When not in the water, the route is along the rocks so runners (especially Volleys) would have been a much better choice than boots. However, the thorough soaking will accelerate the breaking in of my new Scarpas.
We made an early start driving up to Woombye and started the walk at 0700. It took 1.5hrs to reach our destination - the waterfall - and the same time to return. There was light rain on the way up the creek and heavier rain on the way back.

This was a fun walk, made funnier by the complete lack of grip provided by the hard rubber soles of our walking boots. There were many picturesque locations along the way and the falls, where we had morning tea, were well worth the walk.
On return to the car we stripped off wet gear and enjoyed a cuppa and cake kindly provided by Alex's parents. Overall, a lovely morning.

hey i live in dulong and i have been told about this place and i was wondering if you would tell me the directions?
Thank You
Hi Unidude,
I cannot pinpoint the falls on Google Maps. However you start at the bridge where Blackall Range Rd crosses Petrie Creek just next to the junction of Blackall Range Rd and Jackson Rd. Then follow the creek south and west. Just be mindful that either side of the creek is private property all the way, so keep to the creek. Email me if you need further help.
Cheers, Brian
